Trojans Don’t Horse Around With Dragons

The North Hall Trojans and the Lady Trojans traveled to Jasper, Georgia on Tuesday to take on the Dragons and Dragonnettes of Pickens High School. North Hall was victorious in both the girls’ and boys’ contests, as the Dragonettes lost 75-45, and the Dragons fell 66-51.The first matchup of the night saw the Lady Trojans take on the Dragonettes. Pickens answered North Hall shot for shot in the first quarter of play, but the second quarter saw the Lady Trojans surge ahead, outscoring the Dragonnettes 22-8 to take a 36-18 lead at halftime.

The Dragonettes continued to fight in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to stop the high-powered Lady Trojans, as Pickens lost the game 75-45. Sophomore Sarah Smith led Pickens in scoring and rebounding with nine points and eight rebounds.

Following the girl’s game came the boy’s game, a showdown between two teams that quickly proved they could effectively shoot the three ball. Both teams played sound on offense and defense throughout the game, but well-timed threes by the Trojans gave North Hall a 54-37 advantage going into the fourth.

Pickens got hot thanks to five points off the bench from senior Aries Johnson, but it wasn’t enough to propel the Dragons to a come-from-behind victory, as North Hall won the game 66-51. Senior Austin Murphy led Pickens in scoring with thirteen points, while senior Spencer Jones led the team in rebounds with six.

The Dragons and Dragonettes’ next set of games comes next Tuesday, as they welcome the Ringgold Tigers and Lady Tigers to Pickens.
