J-Hill’s Two Minute Drill

Team FYN Sports

Hello, sports fans, and welcome to the first edition of “J-Hill’s Two Minute Drill”. In the two-minute drill I will throw out some of the hot topics that are trending around the sports world and give you my thoughts on each scenario. Let’s get started. * Hello, I Must Be Going – The Pittsburgh Panthers football team received quite a shock this week when first-year head coach Todd Graham bolted for the Arizona State head coaching position. Graham has proven himself to be a Bobby Petrino-type coach, one who is never satisfied with his current position and instead is constantly looking for a better opportunity. The question that I have to ask concerns how the NCAA can stop a coach from bolting after such a short stint with a school, leaving all of the coach’s recruits shaking their heads and cursing the man that told him that he would be there with them every step of the way. The plan isn’t perfect, but my suggestion is that the NCAA makes a new rule that states if you leave a school for another job after less than three years with that school, you will be fined a certain percentage for every recruit that has committed to your school in the current recruiting season. The NCAA brags about how it exists to protect the best interests of student-athletes, so let’s see them make a rule that keeps head coaches like Graham from leaving their players high and dry.

*Tebow Time in Denver – ESPN and blogs across the country have been talking about Tim Tebow all this week after the former Heisman winner led the Broncos to yet another comeback victory. While some “experts” are still criticizing Tebow and even Broncos vice president of football operations John Elway remains noncommittal on the quarterback, I think it’s clear that Tebow has earned the right to start for the Broncos for the rest of the season, if not longer. After all, the team seems to be completely behind him, and realistically, who else does Denver have that could do any better? I guarantee you that a Brady Quinn-led Broncos squad would be sitting at well-below .500 at this point. Tebow has a big test this week, as Denver takes on the mighty New England Patriots. I don’t expect him to throw for 350 yards and 4 touchdowns, but I think he will have a nice game against the Pats, leading to another close game for the Broncos.

*‘Tis the Bowl Season – The college football bowl season kicks off today with three “exciting” games: the Gildan New Mexico Bowl, featuring Temple and Wyoming, the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, featuring Ohio and Utah State, and the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, featuring San Diego State and UL-Lafayette. None of these bowl games have any storylines that would make you tune in other than the simple fact that it’s college football on a Saturday in which the only other options are watching re-runs or Christmas shopping. I expect these games to be pretty even contests, but I predict that Temple, Utah State, and San Diego State will come out on top.
