The Race Trac gas station, located on Highway 515 in Jasper will reopen tomorrow at 6:00 A.M. The store has been closed since Saturday, when a fire started inside causing the operation to temporarily close its doors.

According to a report from the City of Jasper Fire Department, the fire was discovered around six o’clock in the morning. The Jasper Fire Department responded to the call at 6:11 A.M. on June 9th. Assisted by Pickens County Fire Department and Bethany Salem Volunteer Fire Department, the Jasper Fire Department found black smoke billowing thick from the building as they arrived on the scene. In his report, Jasper Fire Chief Steve Roper said that firefighters found a stand alone cooler burning in the middle of the store. Roper said the fire was quickly extinguished. He also noted the fire and water damage was minimal, but the smoke damage to the building and contents was extensive. Seemingly, the fire started due to a type of malfunction of the cooler.

“This store is a special part of the RaceTrac family, so it was very important for us to get it up and running quickly. We know how important it is to the Jasper community, and we’re excited to be able to make our guests’ lives simpler and more enjoyable,”

said Race Trac Associate Manger of Public Relations Terrica Oglesby.

The Jasper Race Trac will be serving complimentary coffee for the next few days, starting at 6:00 A.M. tomorrow. As it finishes repairs, the store will have a full selection of gas, cigarettes, coffee and a limited selection of packaged goods, bottled drinks, and alcohol.

“A portion of the store was damaged, but we’ll be upgrading the whole look of the store to be similar to our new 6000sqft. Model,”

Oglesby said.
