Nelson Signs Red Ribbon Proclamation

The Nelson City Council signed the Red Ribbon Proclamation during its October meeting this week.Started in 1985, the Red Ribbon program was forged in honor of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, who was brutally murdered in Mexico fighting the war on drugs. During the meeting, Allan and Gage Bennett gave a presentation, explaining the program, highlighting its history and purpose—to demonstrate the community’s commitment to a healthy, drug free lifestyle.

The proclamation signed by the Nelson City Council reads:

Businesses, government, parents, law enforcement, media, medical institutions, religions, schools, senior citizens service organizations and youth will demonstrate their commitment to a healthy, drug-free lifestyle by wearing and displaying a red ribbon during the week-long campaign and where as the community of Nelson further commits its resources to ensure the success of the red ribbon campaign.

Red Ribbon Week will be recognized the week of October 23rd through October 31st.

The proclamation was passed unanimously.
