Makayla Angel Selected as Wendy’s High School Heisman State Finalist

Pickens High School senior point guard Makayla Angel was selected as one of the twenty finalists in the state of Georgia for the Wendy’s High School Heisman award.

The award, which was created in 1994 by Wendy’s and the Heisman Memorial Trust, is given to a male and female high school athlete that excels both on the court or field as well as in the classroom.Next in the selection process is announcing the state winners, which will occur on November 5th. From there twelve will be chosen as national finalists and will go to New York City on December 7th to see which male and which female athlete is selected as the High School Heisman winners.

Makayla is the first Pickens High School student to ever be selected as a High School Heisman state finalist and one of only two student athletes in Georgia’s Region 7-AAAA to be selected this year, the other being Ridgeland linebacker Daniel Johnson.

Makayla and the rest of the Dragonettes start the 2012-2013 season on November 17th, when Pickens faces off with Fannin, Gilmer, and Copper Basin in the season opening ETC Tournament.
