Motorcycle Rally to Prevent Child Abuse

Community

The North Georgia Mountains will rumble on June 30th as bikers, once again, gather from Georgia and Tennessee to show their support and raise money to Prevent Child Abuse. This annual event, benefiting Prevent Child Abuse Pickens (PCAPickens), will begin at Rocco’s Pub in Jasper with registration at 12 Noon, followed by an escorted ride through the beautiful North Georgia Mountains.

Returning to Rocco’s the riders will enjoy live music and a car show. A highlight of this year’s rally will be the 2nd Annual “First Ever Meat Raffle in Georgia”. Val Jacobson, the benefit organizer, speaking of last year’s event, stated: “It was a blast. Bikers are so generous and know how to have a good time”. Val brought the idea of a meat raffle from Minnesota where meat was raffled off in bars for local charities.
Titled “Get Your Motor Runnin’ for Kids”, all the proceeds go to Prevent Child Abuse Pickens. This non-profit organization was founded 17 years ago with the mission to stop abuse and neglect before it starts and promote early school readiness. PCAP developed Footsteps for Families, designed to greet every expectant parent and provide them guidance, parenting education, referrals and family support throughout pregnancy. Parents as Teachers stays with the family, until the child enters kindergarten, coaching them in the preparing their child for school and beyond. Currently there are 20+ families participating in this program. Unfortunately, due to a lack of funding, there is a waiting list of 52 more families needing support. For additional information, to volunteer or to make a donation please contact PCAP at PCAPickens on Facebook or by calling 706-253-6488.
