Although festival days are generally associated with joviality, this year’s is tinged with sadness due to the unexpected passing of Talking Rock’s mayor, Peter Cagle. In lieu of the traditional “Mayor’s Parade,” a tribute to Cagle was included. A fire truck, the Boy Scouts and traditional bagpipe players solemnly marched down Main Street. At the end of their route, they met Cagle’s, widow, Lynda. She removed a memorial wreath that had been placed on the front of the truck and placed it on city hall.
