News Release from Pickens County Schools

The Pickens County School District received confirmation from the Georgia Department of Education that State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge plans to present a resolution (per OCGA 20-2-168) to the State Board of Education on February 20, 2014. Since Governor Deal declared a State of Emergency in Georgia as a result of the recent extreme weather conditions, the State Board of Education’s approval of the February 20th resolution would provide flexibility to local Boards of Education as to whether the January 28-31 snow days will have to be made up by students. The Pickens County Board of Education is eagerly awaiting the State Board’s decision on February 20th, as well as the specific content included in the resolution.

District administrators understand that the resolution will address flexibility for students only and not flexibility for staff members. The staff will be required to make up the time missed from work. As always, the Pickens County School District is extremely proud of our schools and appreciates the hard work and dedication of both our students and staff.
