The 27th Annual Fishing Rodeo will be held on May 7th, 8th, and 9th this year. The 27th Annual Kids Fishing Rodeo Day, sponsored by the Pickens County Sportsman Club and Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR), will be held on May 7th, 8th, and 9th this year. This is a 3-day event-people with special needs will be able to fish on Thursday, Senior Citizens on Friday and the Kids Fishing Rodeo on Saturday. Saturday at 2pm it will be open to the public but you will need to make sure you have your fishing license.

This event was started 20 years ago and is held annually with lots of help from businesses and individuals in Pickens County. Jerry Steele, of the Pickens County Sportsman Club spoke briefly at the Jasper City council meeting Monday April 6th. He explained how they would stock over 4,000 trout prior to the event. Last year approximately 2000 fish were caught during the rodeo.

Steele said in the prior year the nursing homes and assisted living residents had a great time, saying, “If you want to see something to really make your heart swell up come out and look at the nursing homes and assisted living homes people.” Steele said that during last year’s event, “At one time there were 75 or 80 wheelchairs on the bank.” The Jasper City Council approved the event during the meeting.

The event is held at Cove Creek, right on Cove Road and is considered city property. Be sure to mark your calendar for a fun filled 3-days of fishing.
