Nettes’ Earn Region Win Over Lady Raiders

Tonight, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team hosted the Lady Raiders of Southeast Whitfield in region play. Pickens, came into the ball game looking to improve to 3-2 in 7-AAAA play.

 

In the 1st, both teams traded buckets. The Lady Raiders took the early advantage heading to the 2nd, 13-9. In the 2nd quarter, Southeast Whitfield barely outscored the Nettes’ 13-12, to take a 26-21 lead into the break.

 

In the 3rd, Pickens used both offense and defense to get back into the game and to take the lead. The Nettes’ outscored the Lady Raiders 22-10 to take a 43-36 lead into the 4th. In the 4th, Pickens closed out the win by outscoring Southeast Whitfield 19-14 and hitting some key free throws. The Nettes’ won this one, 62-50. Pickens had 4 players in double figures in the win.

 

Leading the way for the Nettes’ were:

Mackenzie Hampton: 15 points, 16 rebounds, & 2 assists

Torie Williams: 11 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds, & 2 steals

Shelby Cook: 11 points, 2 assists, 8 rebounds, & 1 steal

Ashley Nelson: 10 points, 4 assists, & 1 steal

Autumn Young had 7 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound, & 1 steal while Madison McClure finished with 6 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds, & 5 steals.

 

The Nettes’ will look to build off of this win when they head to Rossville Ga. to take on the Lady Panthers of Ridgeland on Friday. Tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
