‘Nettes Open Up Thanksgiving Tournament With Win Over Fannin
PHS Basketball, Team FYN Sports November 21, 2016This past Saturday, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team made the short trip up 515 to Ellijay to participate in the 1st day of the annual Thanksgiving Tournament. In this round robin format, the ‘Nettes drew the Lady Rebels of Fannin on day one.
In the opening quarter, both teams found points early. In the back and forth 1st frame, the ‘Nettes came away with the lead, 20-17. In the 2nd, the half continued to be close as Pickens outscored the Lady Rebels 15-10, to take a 35-27 lead into the break.
In the 3rd, the buckets kept coming in for both teams. The ‘Nettes added to their lead in the quarter using a 17-13 run to head to the 4th leading 52-40. In the 4th, Pickens held off Fannin and sank key free throws to outscore the Lady Rebels 13-9 to move to 2-1 on the season with a 65-49 win.

Taylor Wigington: 9 points, 3 assists, 5 rebounds, & 2 steals
Mackenzie Hampton: 9 points, 1 assist, & 4 rebounds
Madison McClure: 5 points, 3 assists, 1 rebound, & 2 steals
Autumn Young: 5 points, 1 assist, 2 rebounds, & 1 steal
Allie Stephens: 4 points, 1 assist, 3 rebounds, & 2 steals
Torie Williams: 4 points, & 4 assists
Tessa Duncan: 3 points
Shelby Cook: 2 points, 1 rebound, & 2 blocks
The ‘Nettes will be back in action today as they take on the Lady Eagles of Hiwassee Dam out of North Carolina. Hiwassee Dam fell to the Lady Cats of Gilmer Saturday night. Tip off time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
