Dragons Get 1st Win In Big Way, Face Bobcats This Evening

Yesterday, the PHS Dragons varsity basketball team found themselves once again in Ellijay for the 2nd day of the annual Thanksgiving Tournament. Their opponent, the Hiwassee Dam Eagles out of North Carolina. Both of these teams were coming off of tough losses on Saturday.

 

In the opening quarter, much like the game against Fannin, Pickens got off to a quick start. The Eagles made a mini run before the end of the quarter, as the Dragons took a 24-16 lead to the 2nd. In the 2nd, both teams found balance on offense. Pickens outscored Hiwassee Dam 17-15, to take a 41-31 lead into the break.

 

The defense got going along with the offense in the 3rd for the Dragons. Pickens went on a 19-9 run in the frame to take a 60-40 lead heading to the 4th and final quarter. The Dragons finished the game off on a 25-12 run to secure their first win of the young season, 85-52.

 

Leading the way for the Dragons were:

Seth Bishop: 20 points, 1 assist, 8 rebounds, 2 steals, & 1 block

Hunter Hermann: 14 points, 6 assists, 10 rebounds, & 2 steals

Joseph Gossett: 12 points, 1 assist, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, & 2 blocks

Blake Gorth: 11 points, 4 assists, 9 rebounds, 2 steals, & 1 block

Matthew Stewart: 8 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, & 2 steals

Avonta Johnson: 6 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound, & 1 steal

Hunter Fowler: 5 points, 1 assist, 2 rebounds, & 1 steal

Zach Goss: 2 points, 1 assist, 2 rebounds, & 2 steals

Hunter Jordan: 2 points, & 1 rebound

Chase Simmons: 1 point, 1 rebound, & 2 steals

 

Tonight, the Dragons will head to Ellijay for the third and final day of the Thanksgiving Tournament where they will take on the host team, & rival, Gilmer Bobcats. Tip off for this tilt is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
