Dragons 2nd Half Comeback Falls Just Short Against Sonoraville

Last night, the PHS Dragons varsity basketball team hosted the Phoenix of Sonoraville in non-region action for the 1st game of the 2017 portion of the schedule. After coming off a win over Oak Grove (AL) to close out 2016, Pickens looked to build off of that momentum coming into the new year.

 

In the 1st, the Phoenix got off to a quick start offensively. The Dragons were able to cut into the lead prior to the end of the frame, but still trailed going to the 2nd, 25-15. In the 2nd, it was more of an even match up as both teams got the offense going. Sonoraville outscored Pickens 20-14 in the quarter to take a 45-29 lead going into the break.

 

In the 3rd, the Dragons had things going their way both offensively & defensively as they made their attempt to get back into the game. After outscoring the Phoenix 17-8 in the frame, Pickens only trailed Sonoraville 53-46, going to the 4th and final quarter. In the 4th, the Dragons again made a move cutting into the lead & at one point, making it a one possession game. The Phoenix however were able to make a key stop and hit free throws to get the win, 69-62.

Blake Gorth: 23 points, 1 assist, & 9 rebounds

Hunter Hermann: 10 points, 3 assists, 7 rebounds, & 2 steals

Hunter Jordan: 6 points, 1 assist, & 7 rebounds

Seth Bishop: 6 points, 1 assist, 2 rebounds, & 1 steal

Chase Simmons: 6 points, 2 assists, 1 rebound, & 1 steal

Avery Luke: 4 points, 1 assist, & 2 rebounds

Zach Goss: 3 points, 1 rebound, & 1 steal

Jacob Brumby: 2 points, & 1 rebound

Keinyuan Hooks: 5 assists, 2 rebounds, & 3 steals

 

The Dragons, will be on the road tomorrow as they face the Raiders of Southeast Whitfield in region play. This game was originally scheduled for Friday but was moved up due to possible impending weather. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.
