Garth W. Foster, 90, passed away peacefully at home in Jasper, Ga. October 17, 2017. He was born in Haddon Heights, N.J. to Charles and Mildred Foster.

Garth retired after a 43-year career at Western Electric/AT&T/ as an engineer associate which brought him from New Jersey to the Southeast where he lived in Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia. He also served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and fought in the historic Battle of Chosen Reservoir. For his distinctive service, he was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, United Nations Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Navy Occupation Medal. 


Garth lived his life with honor and integrity and credited his long life to regular exercise and refraining from smoking and drinking alcohol. He had a sense of humor and enjoyed the outdoors, grilling, walking his dogs, playing basketball and coaching youth baseball. Garth advocated hard work and gave this advice to his children: “You don’t get something for nothing.” 


He is survived by his wife Martha Foster of Jasper; children Karen Foster Randall of Canton, Ga., Mark (Karen) Foster of Powder Springs, Ga., Debra Foster Haley of Tucker, Ga., and David (Kerri) Foster of Moody, Ala.; stepdaughters, Tina, Karen and Anissa; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.


Memorial contributions can be made to Pickens County Animal Shelter at 3563 Camp Rd., Jasper, Ga. 30143. A graveside service will be held 1:30pm Friday, October 20, 2017 at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta, Ga.
