‘Nettes Get Win Over Hiwassee Dam, Play Host Fannin In True Championship Game

The PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team, was again in Blue Ridge yesterday afternoon for day 2 of the Thanksgiving Tip-Off Tournament. Their opponent on this day, the Hiwassee Dam Lady Eagles.

 

In the opening quarter of play, the ‘Nettes, would seize control early. Pickens took a 14-7 lead over the Lady Eagles going to the 2nd quarter. The defense for Pickens helped lead to offense as they would build on their 1st quarter lead on Hiwassee Dam. Using a 16-9 quarter run, The ‘Nettes held a 30-16 advantage as we hit the half.

 

In the 3rd, the both teams would slightly struggle finding consistent offense, but Pickens would still maintain a lead. The ‘Nettes held a 37-22 lead over the Lady Eagles going to the 4th and final quarter. In the 4th, an 11-8 quarter run for Pickens helped seal the victory as the ‘Nettes took this one, 48-30.

 

Leading the way for Pickens would be:

Mykenzie Weaver: 19 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds, & 1 steal

Mackenzie Hampton: 12 points, 1 assist, 6 rebounds, & 3 steals

Torie Williams: 9 points, 3 assists, & 1 steal

Hattie Baker: 4 points, 3 rebounds, & 2 steals

Olivia Simmons: 3 points, 1 assist, & 9 rebounds

 

With wins by Pickens & Fannin yesterday, it sets up a true championship game between the two teams this evening. The ‘Nettes & Lady Rebels will tip-off at a scheduled 6 pm.
