The PHS Dragons varsity basketball team was again in Blue Ridge last night for the third and final day of the Thanksgiving Tip-Off Tournament. Pickens, would be taking on the host team, the Fannin Rebels. Both teams were coming off tough losses on Tuesday, & looked to end the tournament on a good note.
Much like the ‘Nettes in the game beforehand, the Dragons got off to a fast start against the Rebels. Pickens held a 26-14 advantage after the 1st. In the 2nd, both teams traded buckets in high paced action. The Dragons outscored Fannin by a slight edge of 12-11 to take a 38-25 lead into the break.
In the 3rd, Pickens kept holding off any Rebel comeback chance, while adding to their lead. The highlight of the half, & maybe the game, was a thunderous slam by the Dragons’ Seth Bishop. The Dragons used a 12-9 run in the 3rd to stretch their lead over Fannin to 50-34 going to the 4th. A 20-12 4th quarter run would seal the victory for the Dragons. Your final score, 70-46. With the win, Pickens shares a piece of the championship with Gilmer. Both finished at 2-1.
Leading the way for the Dragons were:
Joseph Gossett: 16 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds, & 4 steals (All-Tournament selection)
Seth Bishop: 15 points, 2 assists, 8 rebounds, & 1 steal (All-Tournament selection)
