Last night, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team headed to Fannin County High School for the third and final day of the Thanksgiving Tip-Off Tournament. Their opponent on this day, the Fannin Lady Rebels. Both teams won their games on Saturday & Monday, so this game would determine the winner of this annual round robin tournament.
The ‘Nettes, got off to a roaring start against the Lady Rebels in the opening quarter. Pickens held a lead of 21-5 going to the 2nd quarter. In the 2nd, the scoring stalled a little as Fannin tried to climb back into it. An 8-3 quarter advantage for the Lady Rebels gave us a score of 24-13, with Pickens out in front.
In the 3rd quarter, both teams were neck and neck as far as scoring goes in the frame. The ‘Nettes outscored Fannin 12-11 in the third to keep their lead going to the 4th, 36-24. The 4th and final quarter would belong to Pickens. They used a combination of tough defense to convert to offense to grow their lead. Using a 17-5 quarter run, the ‘Nettes closed the game out and came away with the win, 53-29.

Torie Williams: 13 points, 3 assists, & 2 steals (All-Tournament selection)
Mackenzie Hampton: 8 points, 2 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, & 2 blocks (All-Tournament selection)
Sarah Morris: 6 points
Shelby Cook: 2 points, 2 assists, & 5 rebounds
Allie Stephens: 2 points, 1 assist, 4 rebounds, & 3 steals
Pickens, is now 4-0 on the young season and is slated to start region play on Tuesday as they welcome the LaFayette Lady Ramblers to the Dragons Den. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 pm.
