Tale Of Two Halves For The Dragons & Sonoraville

PHS Basketball, Team FYN Sports

We had mid-afternoon basketball yesterday as the PHS Dragons varsity basketball team hosted the Sonoraville Phoenix out of 6-AAA for a non-region match up. These two teams split the season series last season, with both teams winning away from each other’s home floor.

In the 1st quarter, both teams found offense quickly. Sonoraville, held the lead after a fast paced opening frame, 19-18. The 2nd quarter, mirrored the 1st as the offense for both teams stayed hot. Both teams scored 16 points each in the 2nd, & the Phoenix took a 35-34 lead over the Dragons going to the break.

The 2nd, half would be the difference of this ball game. In the 3rd, Sonoraville, outscored Pickens 21-11, & the Dragons found themselves down 56-45, going to the 4th, but as we’ve seen lately, they certainly were not out of it. The 4th quarter, was a back and forth frame, as most of the ball game turned out to be. The Phoenix, outscored the Dragons 25-16 in the final quarter to get the win, 81-61.

Leading the way for the Dragons were:

Seth Bishop: 20 points, 1 assist, 9 rebounds, & 1 steal

Zach Goss: 15 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, & 1 block

Joseph Gossett: 10 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, & 1 block

Keinyuan Hooks: 6 points, 10 assists, 3 rebounds, & 1 steal

Chase Simmons: 5 points, 2 assists, & 1 rebound

Tucker Lowe: 3 points

The Dragons, will shift their focus now to region play as they will be on the road on Tuesday taking on the LaFayette Ramblers, looking for a season split. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
