Dragonettes Take Down Raiders

Team FYN Sports

The Dragonettes of Pickens High School traveled to Whitfield County to face off with the Southeast Whitfield Raiders on Thursday in a region match up.  A win is never a given but with the Raiders coming in at 0-17 overall and 0-9 in region play Pickens were confident they could leave with a “W”.

With Pickens being the visiting team they had the opportunity to set the pace of the game and it didn’t take long.  The Raiders knew in the top of the first that it was going to be a tough task to stop the Dragonettes offense. Allison Tlacil stepped in the box as the first batter and reached base on a single.  Sarah Morris and Monica Hughes would follow suit adding singles of their own in the inning. Katherine Densmore walked followed by an awesome double by Chloe McPherson to put 4 runs on the board quick against the Raiders pitcher.  Pickens continued their offensive onslaught in the second and third innings putting 3 runs in each inning.  Up 10-0 heading into the bottom half of inning 3, the Raiders were finally able to get something going against a Dragonettes picher and put 2 runs on the board.  Pickens added an insurance run in the sixth with Southeast Whitfield adding 1 run up in the fifth and sixth but they wouldn’t be enough to catch the Dragonettes.

Sarah Morris(starter), Charlie Hulsey and Grayson Cleghorn shared the circle in the game.  Morris went 2 innings throwing 20 pitches.  Hulsey(winning pitcher) allowed 4 runs(3 earned) on 6 hits, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.  Finishing the game, Cleghorn threw 5 pitches and had a strikeout.  At the plate several Dragonettes (12 hits on the day)had excellent games.  Allie Tlacil was 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored, Sarah Morris-2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and Chloe McPherson- 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI.  Ellie Abner also had 3 RBI in the game.

The Drqagonettes will travel to Lumpkin Co. on Monday the 17th to face off in a 5:55 PM game with the Indians.
