Runs Scarce for Dragonettes in Loss

Team FYN Sports

After a big win over Southeast Whitfield to earn the rights to play the Lady Bruins of Northwest Whitfield on Tuesday, the Dragonettes cleated up for game one of the 6-AAAA region tournament.

The first game of best of three at Northwest both teams were needing the win to leave their opponent under the pressure of having to fight back with  2 wins in a row.  The runs for Pickens came but they were scarce and insufficient.  With 3 in the fourth, the Dragonettes were not able to get a rhythm going  as they faced two dominating pitchers for the Lady Raiders.  Shaylen Sutton worked 4 innings in throwing 75 pitches and allowed the three runs to Pickens.  Sutton struck out 5 Dragonettes.  In relief, Destin Jewell came in to throw 34 pitches in her 2 innings of work.

Sarah Morris took the circle for the Dragonettes with Gracie Cleghorn working the last inning in relief. Morris worked 5 innings allowing 11 runs on 10 hits and 6 walks.  Cleghorn threw 8 pitches allowing 1 hit and 1 walk in the 11-3 loss to the Lady Bruins.

In the offensive struggles for Pickens Monica Hughes, Ellie Abner and Allie Tlacil reached base with 1 hit each.

The loss to the Lady Bruins has forced the Drgonettes in to a must win situation in game 2.  Next game followed shortly after against these same Lady bruins of Northwest Whitfield.
