THE SWINGING PENDULUM – THE LIBERAL MEDIA AN OP-ED

Opinion

This is the latest in a series of editorials on the swinging pendulum of political philosophy in America which continues with the advent of the Obama administration and its minions supported by the left liberal printed and electronic media. Political bias in the media is nothing new; however, I can think of no other period in modern American history where the bias of American journalism has been flagrant with its support of the Obama Socialist agenda. In a previous editorial, we detailed the bias of the left-liberal mainstream media and entertainment industry. We explained how they collectively continue to manipulate the thinking of the American people. Today they control information and news to create a distorted picture of the activities of the current administration in Washington while engaging in outright Republican and conservative bashing at the same time.

During an interview by nationally syndicated broadcaster Hugh Hewitt in October 2006, Mark Halpren, Political Director for ABC News, admitted that the mainstream media are purely liberal in its thinking and reporting. Of course they will never admit it publically. The left-liberal media can proffer any agenda they want because they have the protection of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The majority of the mainstream media outlets are in the pockets of the so called Progressive Democrats, who are, for the most part, Socialist, or worse, Marxists.

In a recent interview on the Today Show, reporter Ann Curry tried to upstage Newt Gingrich and his position on the controversy currently facing Herman Cain. She was clearly out of her league. Mr. Gingrich was unshakable and was not going to let this reporter, who is obviously an apologist for the Obama administration, put words in his mouth.

It is disturbing to see Republican presidential candidates willfully submit to verbal assault from the mainstream media such as occurred during the CNBC-Michigan Republican Organization debate, Your Money or Your Vote. This political farce orchestrated by pro-Obama journalists was nothing but an angry interrogation during which candidates were subjected to a mindless drone screaming at them about stock market issues. Moderator Marie Bartricomo’s bias was so blatant, she might as well have been wearing a flashing “Obama in 2012” button on her shirt. Why Republican candidates subject themselves to such manipulative abuse remains a mystery. Perhaps they feel a need to deliver their message through a venue that the left-liberal media control, i.e. the mainstream television networks. They would be better off using the Fox Network coupled with the internet to deliver their message. After all, that is their base. Candidates participating in liberal media charades harm themselves and the Republican platform to the extent that cooperation confers legitimacy to the liberal agenda. That is except for Newt Gingrich who thrives on metaphorical combat with the media or anyone willing to take him on.

Forty three years ago, a man was brought from obscurity as a relatively ordinary county lawyer, as a county administrator, as a governor, to become Vice President of the United States in just seven years. He was a man who had yet to pay his dues to the political power structure in Washington, let alone the real power brokers in this country. They are the same power brokers who hide in the shadows of American politics. This is the same power structure that pulls the strings on Presidents and key members of the Congress, notwithstanding their party affiliation. He was a man who had no use for the Federal Reserve System or the major players that control that system. He was a man who despised university presidents for allowing the minds of our young people to be warped with Socialist ideas. He was a man who definitely had no use for the mainstream media, and looked upon them with distaste and disgust.

He was a man who was a heartbeat away from becoming President of the United States, which became very evident as the Watergate scandal began to unfold. But, because of his intent to demand accountability of the Federal Reserve, and to seek remedial legislation on the Fed; to take on the Wall Street manipulators; to take on the so-called political intelligentsia and many of the big players in the country, including his boss, President Richard Nixon, he needed to be removed from office. That man was Vice President Spiro “Ted” Agnew.

It was common knowledge by just about everyone in Maryland politics that two high ranking officials of the Maryland State Roads Commission were in business for themselves taking kickbacks from road and paving contractors for lucrative state contracts. Attorney General John Mitchell, the only U.S. Attorney General ever to be convicted of illegal activities, wanted to remove Agnew from office. To this end, he directed the FBI to investigate the Maryland State Roads Commission in order to expose corruption he knew existed. Then he offered to grant immunity to the key perpetrators in that scandal if they would finger Ted Agnew as a participant in the kickback scheme. To save their skin, they lied to incriminate the Vice President.

A very reliable source close to the Vice President has stated confidentially to those who had been close to him that if Ted Agnew had not pleaded guilty to at least one count of tax evasion (not public corruption), he would be assassinated – a threat that came from within the Nixon camp.

Those who knew Ted Agnew intimately were well aware of his disgust for the mainstream media. He summed up his feeling about the national media in remarks he published on November 13, 1969:

“We cannot measure this power and influence by traditional democratic standards. They can make or break — by their coverage and commentary — a moratorium on the (Vietnam) war. They can elevate men from local obscurity to national prominence within a week. They can reward some politicians with national exposure and ignore others. For millions of Americans, the network reporter who covers a continuing issue, like ABM or civil rights, becomes in effect, the presiding judge in a national trial by jury.”
“We do know that, to a man, these commentators and producers live and work in the geographic and political confines of Washington D.C. or New York City — the latter of which James Reston terms the ‘most unrepresentative community in the entire United States.’ Both communities bask in their own provincialism, their own parochialism. We can deduce that these men thus read the same newspapers, and draw their political and social views from the same sources. Worse, they talk constantly to one another, thereby providing artificial reinforcement of their own viewpoints.”
“Less than a week before the 1968 election, [ABC’s Frank Reynolds] charged that President Nixon’s campaign commitments were no more durable than campaign balloons. He claimed, were it not for fear of a hostile reaction, Richard Nixon would be giving into, and I quote the commentator, ‘his natural instinct to smash the enemy with a club or go after him with a meat-axe.’ Had this slander been made by one political candidate about another, it would have been dismissed by most commentators as a partisan assault. But this attack emanated from the privileged sanctuary of a network studio and therefore had the apparent dignity of an objective statement.”
“We have heard demands that Senators and Congressmen and Judges make known their financial connections — so that the public will know who and what influences their decisions or votes. Strong arguments can be made for that view. But when a single commentator or producer, night after night, determines for millions of people how much of each side of a great issue they are going to see and hear, should he not first disclose his personal views on the issue as well?”
Agnew told the media “to turn their critical powers on themselves. They are challenged to direct their energy, talent, and conviction toward improving the quality and objectivity of news presentation….And the people of America are challenged too….This is one case where the people must defend themselves, where the citizen — not the government — must be the reformer, where the consumer can be the most effective crusader.”
Concluding he said: “We would never trust such powers, I’ve described, over public opinion in the hands of an elected government. It is time we questioned it in the hands of a small and unelected elite. The great networks have dominated America’s airwaves for decades. The people are entitled to a full accounting of their stewardship.”
“I’m not asking for government censorship… I’m asking whether a form of censorship already exists when the news that 40 million Americans receive each night is determined by a handful of men responsible only to their corporate employers.”
As it was 43 years ago and as it is today, the left-liberal media continue to deny the people of America the truth about President Obama, his administration, its corruption and waste of taxpayer dollars; his real agenda for America; the power behind the scene that dictates chapter and verse what the President says and does each and every day of his administration; and the corruptive practices of several members of Congress, all of whom are Democrats.

With all of this in mind, I know you can appreciate that the next twelve months will be the most difficult for conservatives in our work to protect our freedoms and the American way of life. This, and other messages, must be communicated to the American people if we are to prevail in 2012. We believe that the power of the internet trumps the readership and viewership of all of the mainstream media combined, but only if each of us uses it effectively. Twelve months ago, we caught the Democrats off guard when we worked hard, and successfully, to remove many members of both the House and Senate; thus, changing the balance of power in the Congress. Our work is far from over.

Let’s keep these messages flowing…..All of us collectively can begin to clean up Washington D.C. , our state legislatures and our local government officials whose “business as usual” mindset must be stopped if we are to survive as a nation.

The conservative course is clear, GO IN YOUR POWER AND SAVE YOUR COUNTRY!
