The Pickens Dragons and Dragonettes traveled to Cedartown on Friday night prepared to play, winning both of their games against the Bulldogs.
The first game of the evening between the Dragonettes and the Lady Bulldogs was a blowout from the beginning, as the Dragonettes took the lead early on and never looked back.
The Dragonettes won the game by a final score of 84-31, adding yet another win in a very successful season for the pride of Pickens.
Danielle Goss led the Dragonettes in scoring with 25 points. Sarah Smith followed close behind with 20 points of her own.
Following the girl's victory came the boy's matchup, a game that in the beginning looked disheartening for Pickens.
The Dragons found themselves down 19-7 after the first quarter, setting up for what looked like a bad loss on the road. However, the Dragons regrouped in the second quarter and found a rhythm on offense, which led to the team outscoring Cedartown 19-12 to cut the Bulldogs' lead to five points.
After a highly contested third quarter saw Pickens stay on pace with Cedartown but still trail the Bulldogs 40-39, the Dragons got hot in the final quarter of play, scoring 25 points to beat the Bulldogs 64-58.
Sam Crawford led the Dragons in scoring with 19 points. Crawford and fellow senior Spencer Jones led the team in rebounds with seven each. Wesley Easterwood finished the game with four assists, a team-high for the evening.
The Dragons and Dragonettes face off with the Gilmer Bobcats on Tuesday, January 31st at Gilmer. The girls' game is scheduled to start at 6:00 with the boy's game following at 7:30.
