At the January 26th Commissioner’s Meeting, Commissioner Robert Jones made several new appointments to various committees.
In addition to the appointments, Jones also heard a year-end tax report from Tax Commissioner Sharon Troglin.
Early in the meeting, Jones approved a resolution appointing Lorrie Shaw to the Joint Development Authority of Bartow and Pickens County. Jones said that Shaw will replace Mark Whitefield, who recently passed away. Shaw was appointed to a six year term, ending in December 2017. The Commissioner also reappointed Clayton Preble to the Planning Commission for a four year term, Brad Bledsoe and Anna Lee Moss to the County Board of Tax Assessors for five year terms, and Winship Durrett to the County Library Board of Trustees.
Following the appointments, Commissioner Jones asked Tax Commissioner Sharon Troglin to give an update on the county tax digest. In her report, Troglin compared the 2010 tax digest with the 2011 digest. Troglin said the county’s millage rate was the same in 2010 as it was in 2011, 6.26. Both reports end December 6th. In 2010, the county’s digest amount was $8,506,635, which reflected a collection of 61 percent, while in 2011 the digest amount was $8,428,162.
“There’s about a four percent collection at that time,”
Troglin said, comparing the digests for the two years.
Troglin noted the bills were mailed on October 6, 2011 and were due on December 6th, at which time only 67 percent of the collections were received.
