The Pickens High School Dragons baseball team hosted region rival, Ridgeland. Though the Panthers put Pickens in a pickle early, the Dragons heated up in the bottom of the seventh. Erasing a four run deficit, Pickens picked up the win when Taylor Logan bases loaded, base clearing standing double secured the 9-8 victory.
The Panthers put no pause in the offense, scoring a run in each of the first two innings for an early 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the second inning Cameron Gregory’s RBI bunt scored Dylan Clark, to make the score 2-1 going into the third.
Tanner Brumby tied the game, 2-2, in the bottom of the third. His RBI standing double scored Eric Justice.
The top of the fifth saw the Panthers pounce on top once again, as Ridgeland rallied for four runs, taking a 7-2 lead midway through the inning. The Dragons' fire was far from extinguished, as Pickens picked up two runs in the bottom the inning: an RBI double from Dylan Childers; and an RBI single from Jesse Decker.
The Panthers scored for the last time in the top of the sixth, and kept the 8-4 lead until the bottom of the seventh inning.
Following a fly out to right field, Brumby singled to left center field. Decker followed with a double that put runners on second and third. Bryan Morris’ RBI single scored Brumby and cut the score to 8-5.
With runners on first and third, Clark hit a sac fly to put Morris on second. A Balk brought Decker home, put Morris on third, and cut the lead to 8-6. Two walks later the bases were loaded.
Taylor Logan cleared the bases with a standing double that picked up 9-8 win for Pickens and cleared the Dragons’ clubhouse.
Starting pitcher, Dylan Childers, pitched four full innings, strike out nine, and gave up two runs.
