UPDATE: On September 10, two additional arrests were made in the case involving the death of Taylor Smith.
Dustin Cox (25, Canton, Ga.) was taken into custody for possession of methamphetamine and reckless conduct. He's being housed in the Cherokee Sheriff's Office Adult Detention Center. Also arrested was Darlene George (51, Cartersville, Ga.), charged with illegal possession of a controlled substance, false statements of matters within jurisdiction of state and reckless conduct. She turned herself in and is being held at the Pickens County Jail. The toxicology report on Taylor Smith is still pending.
The death of 20-year-old Taylor Smith was discovered when her body was found outside 62 Robin Road in Jasper. The body was located by passersby who called 9-1-1 and alerted authorities.
Marty Gaddis, 38, of Jasper was arrested August 29, the day she was discovered. Denise Patterson, 51, was taken into custody earlier this afternoon. They both face charges of concealing the death of another person, tampering with evidence (two counts), possession of a controlled substance, reckless conduct, and abandonment of a dead body.
Captain Frank Reynolds of the Pickens County Sheriff’s Department said that asthma-related complications appear to be the cause of death at this point, but an autopsy is being performed and a toxicology report is also pending. Pickens County and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are conducting the investigation.
It’s reported Smith was in the company of friends when she suffered an asthma attack at which time they tried to place her in a shower to revive her. Sometime after that, when they realized she’d passed away, she was taken to the trailer on Robin Road where she was left.
At around 8 a.m. Thursday is when authorities were notified of a body and the investigation ensued.
Reynolds stated they have been charged as they have because they did not call 9-1-1 or render care, they just dumped her remains.
FYN will continue to follow this story and provide updates.
