A letter from Branko “Dr. Rad” Radulovacki, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate:
I spent last Saturday at a Tea Party-sponsored event in North Georgia.
Why? Because, despite some reservations about the kind of welcome a progressive Democrat would receive, I felt it was important to demonstrate my willingness to serve ALL Georgians – not just those who share my views.
I’m so glad I went!
I was met by a group of enthusiastic Democrats who praised my courage. They’re excited about the possibility of being heard and represented in the U.S. Senate. I also spoke with a number of independent/undecided voters who appreciated the chance to ask questions and share ideas.
Just as important, I had opportunities to talk with Tea Party folks. Their genuine interest in my positions – and their willingness to discuss the rationale behind them – reinforced my belief that we can find common ground. And that’s the first step in addressing our nation’s problems.
Dr. Rad's (Branko Radulovacki) participation in the Tea Party event reminds us of the Civil Liberties positions that Progressives and Tea Partiers share, as well as how specific issue - area bipartisanship that does not require letting go of core values may occur.
Many thank-yous to Dr. Rad for reaching out to Georgians of various ideological persuasions and interests, and to listening, intently, to our many experiences and attempting to understand our diverse perspectives!
