The Pickens High School Dragons wrestling team hosted a Tri-Meet, featuring dual matches with Gainesville and Cartersville. The Dragons ended up 0-2 on the day, falling to Gainesville 54-21, and Cartersville 72-12. Cartersville swept the day beating both Gainesville and the host team.
The Dragons first faced off with the Red Elephants of Gainesville High School. The Red Elephants drew first blood, scoring six points with a pin in the opening match at the 145lbs weight class.
Pickens’ Dillon Champion cut the lead in half, with a minor win (less than eight match points) at 152. Champion procured the win with a last second take down, worth two match points that broke a 5-5 tie giving him a 7-5 match win.
The Red Elephants proceeded to stampede, as two straight Gainesville pins, followed by two straight Pickens forfeits saw Gainesville increase its lead to 30-3.
The two teams traded forfeits like Frenchman, for the rest of the match, with Gainesville picking up two more pins. Jesse Stevenson ended the dual with a pin for Pickens, courtesy of a nice cradle, at 138. The Dragons fell 54-21.
The next dual saw Hurricanes of Cartersville rain all over the Dragons’ parade. Pickens picked up two wins in the dual, a forfeit at 182 and a pin by Elliot Gallagher at the heavyweight.
When it was all said and done, the Hurricanes stormed to a 72-12 victory.
