PICKENS COUNTY REPUBLICAN PARTY POSITION STATEMENT January 14, 2014

Primary goals of the Republican Party should be to strengthen health care delivery, reduce health care costs, and improve health care insurance coverage. To accomplish these goals, we must retake the Senate, repeal Obamacare and enact legislation to make the goals reality.

Obamacare is solely a creation of a Democrat President and a Democrat Congress. As it fails, that failure should be clearly attributed to the problems of Obamacare without reference to any other cause. Unfortunately, the concept and effort to defund this failed legislation was misguided and likely damaging to the Republican Party, no matter the motivation, because it gave the Democrats an opportunity to blame Republicans when such failure is solely due to the legislation’s own inherent problems.

Obamacare deals primarily with health care insurance. It does essentially nothing to improve health care delivery while it arguably makes both worse. The vast majority of Americans had satisfactory health insurance and health care delivery before this debacle. This failed attempt to add coverage to a small minority has seriously disrupted health care insurance and delivery for the majority.

To retake the Senate, we must cease the divisive intra-party squabbles and concentrate on fielding winning candidates. To enact effective health care legislation, we must agree on a single plan and sell it to the public.

This position statement should be fundamental to any messages on healthcare matters from the Republican Party.

(This statement was presented and voted upon by members present to be presented as a statement of the intent of our party to be involved in the making of policies for our District, State and National platforms.)
