The Pickens High School Dragons baseball team recently completed a three game series with the Cass Colonels. The Colonels swept the series, ending with a 12-1 picking apart of Pickens at home as the Dragons honored, Patsy Woodall, Angie Hodge, Mary Patterson, Ashley Cagle, Jade Anderson, and Joyce Cantrell during the third annual “Pink Out” Cancer Awareness game.
The Dragons first hosted the Colonels, falling 6-4. With both teams scoring one run in the first inning, the Colonels took a 3-1 lead after two runs in the top of the second. Pickens cut the lead to 3-2 with a run in the bottom of the second.
Two runs in the bottom of the third gave PHS a 4-2 lead; however, a run in the fourth and two more in the seventh gave Cass the 6-4 victory.
Dylan Clark lead the Dragons from the plate batting 1.000 on a three for three day, with one run scored and three batted in. Zack Hermann was second with a .750 average. He went three for four with a run scored.
Tyler Garner pitched six innings with five strike outs and three earned runs.
The second game saw the Colonels jump out to an 8-0 lead before Jesse Stargel scored the Dragons lone run in the top of the seventh inning.
The third game saw he aforementioned cancer awareness ceremony in during which the honorees threw out the first pitch.
Again the Dragons managed to only score one run, by Travis Huffman, via a Dylan Clark RBI, while conversely giving up 12.
