Yesterday, the ‘Nettes varsity basketball team traveled to Cartersville to take on the Lady Canes in 7AAAA action. This game was rescheduled from several weeks ago due to Cartersville’s football team hosting Buford in a AAAA semi-final playoff game. It was a back and forth game the whole way.
The first quarter started off with the ‘Nettes gaining control on offense. By the end of the quarter however, the Lady Canes offense came alive but it would be Pickens that maintained the lead going into the second quarter, 16-15. Cartersville took advantage of some missed ‘Nettes rebound chances and using a 12-8 second quarter to take a 27-23 lead into the half.

In the third quarter, the ‘Nettes offense would stall to a degree as the Lady Canes outscored Pickens 16-8 in the quarter to stretch their lead out to 43-32. In the fourth and final quarter, the ‘Nettes offense woke up and poured in 17 points but it would not be enough as Cartersville did just enough to end Pickens’ comeback attempt and come away with the win, 55-49. The ‘Nettes are now 4-7 on the season and are now below .500 in region play at 2-3.

Leading the way for Pickens against the Lady Canes were:

Haley Kalson: 19 points, 6 assists, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals

Makayla Payne: 8 points, 2 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals

Autumn Young: 7 points, 1 assist, and 1 rebound

Taylor Wigington: 6 points, 1 assist, and 3 rebounds
