“People change with vision,” proclaimed Pat McGaughey as he addressed the 24 participants at the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce’s planning retreat held at The Ridges, November 14 & 15. McGaughey used John F. Kennedy’s call for placing a man on the moon and Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” speech to further his point. This was McGaughey’s second consecutive year facilitating the sessions. He is one of the top five trainers in America and Canada and is a faculty member for the United States Chamber of Commerce (www.activatingpeople.com).

McGaughey was introduced to the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce when Chamber President Duncan heard him three years ago while obtaining her certification in Organizational Management through the U.S. Chamber.

McGaughey did masterful job allowing group response. Parish Lowrie, incoming Chamber Chair, stated “Pat led us through a process that not only encouraged, but demanded, everyone’s input. As a result, communication was enhanced and, in the end, we came away with a better product.” Duncan also appreciated Pat’s emphasis “if they build it (goals) they will own it.”

The goals for 2015 and beyond are to: 1) Study & make recommendations on organizational efficiencies and customer service, 2) accelerate our focus on facility needs, 3) create a committee to explore the feasibility of creating a 501c3 foundation, 4) establish and implement a tiered dues structure, 5) enhance the communication channels of our Governmental Affairs Committee, 6) focus on increasing the partnership between higher education and the business community, 7) establish a scholarship for the Youth/Adult Leadership programs, and 8) evaluate the overall effectiveness of the Chamber’s current programs and events.

Committees for 2015 were set for the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce and all Board Members along with the Chamber staff are looking forward to another productive year.
