Dragons Fight Hard Fall Again In Heartbreaking Fashion
Team FYN Sports January 15, 2015Last night, the Dragons varsity basketball team hosted the Ramblers of LaFayette High School in 7AAAA region action. Pickens, riding a tough stretch in their last four games, looked to turn their luck around and get their third region win and a split against LaFayette.The first quarter saw a lot of scoring and three point attempts taken from what seemed like the parking lot of the Dairy Queen. The duel was fun for the fans, agony on the coaches. The Ramblers held the lead after one, 18-16. The Dragon offense stayed hot in the second quarter outscoring LaFayette 21-14 to take a 37-32 lead into the half.
In the third, both teams traded baskets as the Ramblers outscored Pickens 13-12 to trim the Dragon lead to 49-45 as we headed to the fourth and final quarter. With 8 seconds left, and the Dragons down three, a three point shot was thrown up to try for the tie but it would be no good and LaFayette hit one of two free throws as they outscored Pickens in the fourth, 18-10 to get a 63-59 victory.
The Dragons are now 10-9 on the season and tied for sixth in the region with Gilmer and Ridgeland at 2-6

Shannon Brooks: 18 points, 3 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals
Trent Rizoti: 16 points, 2 assists, and 5 rebounds
Holden Roop: 15 points, and 4 assists
Travis Huffman added 3 points and 3 assists
The Dragons will now turn their attention to Friday evening as they will host the Purple Hurricanes of Cartersville in what is a big game for them. Pickens will look to end a 5 game losing streak and split with the Canes on the season. Tip off scheduled for 8:30.
