‘Nettes Stay Hot Blow Away The Lady Hurricanes

Last Friday, the Dragonettes varsity basketball team hosted the Lady Canes of Cartersville in a big 7AAAA match up. Last month, Cartersville was able to come away with a win over the ‘Nettes at their place and Pickens looked to return the favor at their house.This ball game got off to a very slow start. By the end of the quarter, both teams started to pick it up as the ‘Nettes came away with the lead, 10-6. The second quarter saw the offense pick up even more as 31 total points were scored. Pickens won the quarter 18-13, to take a 28-19 lead into the break.

The third quarter saw the ‘Nettes defense step up as they allowed only 6 points. Pickens outscored the Lady Canes 12-6 in the third to extend their lead to 40-25 heading to the fourth. The ‘Nettes closed out the ball game outscoring Cartersville 11-9 in the final frame to get the win, 51-34. Pickens has now won 4 out of their last 5.

The ‘Nettes are now 10-10 on the season and 6-3 in region play

Leading the way for Pickens Friday night were:

Taylor Wigington: 10 points, 2 assists, 1 rebound, and 3 steals

Shelby Cook: 8 points and 1 rebound

Haley Kalson: 7 points, 6 assists, 1 rebound, and 5 steals

Autumn Young: 6 points, 4 assists, 1 rebound, and 3 steals

Kaitlin Redman: 6 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 steals

Makayla Payne: 6 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound, and 2 steals

Mackenzie Hampton finished the game with 4 points, 1 rebound, and a steal

The ‘Nettes will be on the road this week starting tomorrow with a game against Heritage, Catoosa. Pickens will look for the season sweep of the Lady Generals and to keep pace with Northwest Whitfield and Gilmer in the region standings. Tip off scheduled for 6 pm.
