Dragons Get Extra Inning Win Against Adairsville

Dragon's Corner, Featured Stories, Team FYN Sports

Earlier this evening, the Dragons varsity baseball team hosted the Adairsville Tigers in non region action. Due to weather, the Dragons have only been able to play one game so far and looked to even up their season record at 1-1. Sophomore Dominic Stephens took the mound for the Dragons to begin the top half of the first. It was a rocky first inning for the young righty as he gave up two runs in the top of the 1st. His teammates helped him out in the bottom of the frame after Zack Herman led off the inning with a walk and was driven in by Tyler Garner on a fielder’s choice. Adairsville added two runs in the 2nd, and one more in the 3rd to stretch their lead to 5-2.

In the top of the 5th, Sophomore Logan Milsaps came in relief of Senior Travis Seay and promptly struck out the side giving his team momentum headed to the bottom of the inning. It was the Zack Attack in the bottom of the 5th as Sophomore Zack Moore and Junior Zack Herman combined to drive in three runs to tie things up at 5. The tie would not last for long as the Tigers pushed across a run to take the lead into the 6th, 6-5.

Pickens battled back and tied things up again at 6 in the 6th. Adairsville took the lead right back in the 7th, 7-6. Zack Moore brought in Freshman Joseph Gossett on a sacrifice fly to tie it at 7 after seven innings as this one needed extras to determine a winner. Senior Cam Gregory pitched out of a jam in the top of the 8th and Sophomore Wyatt Gooch won the game for his team with a sacrifice fly to right as the Dragons got the win, 8-7.

Zack Herman finished 2-2 with a run and an RBI

Zack Moore finished 1-3 with 3 RBI

Wyatt Gooch finished 2-4 with an RBI

The Dragons were able to compile 10 hits in the ball game

Pickens will be back on the diamond on Friday as they welcome another Tigers team in Dawson County. First pitch set for 5 pm at PCMS.
