Yesterday, the Dragons varsity baseball team welcomed the Coosa Eagles to Dragons Field for an early afternoon ball game. Pickens came in riding a two game win streak after two back to back walk off thrillers and looked to continue their winning ways against the AA school.Senior Slade Bruce took to the mound for the Dragons in the top of the 1st and was able to come away undamaged as we headed to the bottom of the frame. Friday night’s hero Zack Hermann started the bottom of the 1st off with a double, then advanced to third on a Cam Gregory sacrifice, and then scored when Travis Huffman singled to give the Dragons the lead, 1-0 as we moved to the 2nd. Coosa tied things up in the top of the 2nd, while Travis Seay would be left stranded at second after a two out double as we headed to the 3rd tied at 1 a piece.

Logan Milsaps came relieved Bruce in the 3rd as it took a total of 28 pitches between the two to get the Dragons out of the inning as Coosa plated 4 runs to take the lead, 5-1. After a leadoff single in the bottom of the inning by Hermann, a double play and a fly out took care of Pickens as the Eagles held the lead going to the 4th. Isaiah Payne came in for Milsaps in the 4th and held Coosa scoreless as again in the bottom the inning, the Dragons left a runner stranded after a lead off single by the DH Tyler Garner.

Payne was able to get out of a jam as the Eagles left runners at 2nd and 3rd in the top of the 5th. After a lead off single by Seay, and walks drawn by Hermann and Huffman, the Dragons were unable to push any runs across as the bases were left loaded in the bottom of the 5th and Coosa still leading, 5-1. Pickens held the Eagles scoreless in the top half of the 6th as the Dragons left two more runners on base in the bottom of the 6th.
