If It Rains at the Jasper Farmers Market

Article submitted by Darla Huffman: Vendors and customers planning to go to the Jasper Farmers Market last Saturday stayed in bed, for the most part, when they heard the rain. When the market opened at 7:30 the three vendors that were there put up their tents in the rain so the people passing by could see that the market would go on even in the rain. The rain soon stopped and a few more vendors arrived and then the sun came out and customers came. Even at 10:00 Danny Poole had a asparagus, spinach and kale left but not for very long. The vegetable plants were also very popular and the Patterson’s sold all that they had about an hour after they got there. So it was a very good day for the vendors that were there with so little competition. And if you are one of those people who never get there early enough to buy vegetables come on a rainy day because the Jasper Farmers Market is open even if it rains.

Mothers Day is coming up and the market has a lot of things for sale that would make great original gifts. Perhaps the one thing many Mothers want is to spend some time with you. So bring her to the market and let her pick out what she wants. Then you can take her to lunch at one of Jaspers restaurants. And if she chooses a plant you can plant it for her. Make it a Happy Mothers Day.

The Jasper Farmers Market Spring and Summer Season takes place every Saturday morning (April through October) and Wednesday morning (June through August) from 7:30 am to 12 noon in the Park n Ride lot at Lee Newton Park on Hwy 53 in Jasper, with the exception of the July 4 and Marble Festival activities and is a project of the Pickens County Master Gardeners. For more information call the County Extension Office at 706 253 8840.
