Pickens head football coach Steve Sewell, who is the school's all-time wins leader, resigned today following a meeting with Pickens High principal Eddie McDonald and personnel director Dr. Lisa Galloway.
The resignation of Sewell, who posted an 87-104-3 record in his nineteen seasons as Dragons head coach, is effective immediately in regards to football, but he will remain at the school as a drivers education teacher.
The school issued a statement on the subject this afternoon, saying "Coach Sewell has impacted the lives of thousands of people in Pickens County. Pickens High School would like to thank Steve Sewell for his years of dedication, hard work and commitment to the students, athletes and community of Pickens County."
Pickens High has said that it will begin taking in applications for the head coaching vacancy at a later date, and that a search committee composed of faculty and community members will be created in order to select a quality coach to replace the man that to many was Dragons football.
