Nettes’ Get A Big Win In Region Opener

Earlier this evening, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team hosted 7-AAAA foe, the LaFayette Lady Ramblers in the Dragons Den for the first home game of the season. The Nettes’ came into the ball game at 2-2 and looked to start off region play with a win.

 

After a bit of back and forth to start the ball game, Pickens took control by the end of the quarter to lead it, 15-8 going into the 2nd quarter. The Nettes’ were able to extend their lead in the frame with a 17-12 run. Giving them a 32-20 lead heading into the break.

 

The 3rd quarter was highly contested as both teams went back and forth. Both teams ended the quarter each scoring 9 points. Pickens still maintained the lead going to the 4th, 41-29. In the 4th and final quarter. the Nettes’ defense helped spark a 18-5 run to break things open. Pickens went on to take this one, 59-34.

 

Leading the way for the Nettes’ were:

Autumn Young: 20 points, 3 assists, 1 rebound, & 3 steals

Mackenzie Hampton: 15 points, 8 rebounds, & 2 steals

Shae Chadwick: 6 points, 1 assist, 2 rebounds, & a steal

Ashley Nelson: 5 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound, & 2 steals

The Nettes’ were scheduled to host the Lady Purple Hurricanes of Cartersville on Friday but due to the State semi-final football game being played at Cartersville that night, that game has been rescheduled for the 18th. The Nettes’ next game will be next Tuesday at Heritage as they face the Lady Generals. Tip off scheduled for 6 p.m.

This past Saturday, the Dragons varsity basketball team hosted teams from different classifications at the Dragons Den for the Pickens Holiday Classic. This tournament had boys and girls teams from A-6A come play in both the new and old gyms at PHS. The first game of the Classic had Pickens squaring off with a 6A school, the Woodstock Wolverines. Dragons Win Streak Snapped At Four By The Bruins

Last night, the Dragons varsity basketball team came back home to the Dragons Den to take on the Bruins of Northwest Whitfield in 7AAAA action. Pickens came into the ball game riding a four game win streak and looked to continue their impressive play Tuesday evening and collect their third region win.

Dragons Win Third Straight As They Tame The Bobcats

The Dragons varsity basketball team hosted the Bobcats of Gilmer in the Dragons Den for a region 7AAAA battle. Pickens, coming off of an incredible comeback against Heritage on Tuesday, looked to keep the momentum going against their rivals to the north. Dragon Nation would have a lot to cheer about Friday evening.

Down In The Fourth Quarter Dragons Come Back To Get Region Win

Last Tuesday, the Dragons Den played host to a region match up between the Dragons and the visiting Generals of Heritage. Pickens had an 0-1 record in region coming into this ball game while Heritage entered 6-1 overall and 2-0 in region. That would not stop the Dragons from pulling off the “upset.”

Nettes Win Third Straight Have Eyes Set On Undefeated Lady Cats

Last Tuesday, The Nettes were back in action as they hosted the Lady Generals of Heritage in region action in the Dragons Den. Pickens, coming off a non region win against West Hall, looked to continue their good play and move above .500 on the season and stay perfect in region play. The Nettes were able to do just that.

Dragons Explode In 2nd Half To Beat West Hall And Move To 4-2

Yesterday, The Dragons finally returned to the Dragons Den to play a true home game for the first time since November 18th to host the Spartans of West Hall in non region action. Pickens, coming off of a tough loss to LaFayette Tuesday night, looked to get back on track before returning to region play next week. Dragon Nation were treated to a great afternoon of high school basketball.

Nettes Get Non Region Win Over West Hall To Even Up Record

Yesterday, The Nettes varsity basketball team came back to the Dragons Den for the first time since November 18th as they hosted the Lady Spartans of West Hall in non region action. Pickens, coming off of an impressive win in LaFayette on Tuesday, looked to continue their good play against the Lady Spartans. Defense would be the story of this game.

Dragons Lose Double OT Thriller Look Towards Upcoming Tournament

This past Tuesday, the Dragons varsity team opened up the 2014-15 season at home playing host to the Dawson County Tigers in the Dragons Den. The Dragons added several players to the roster after football season came to an end and it would be interesting to see how they would translate from the gridiron, to the hardwood. Nobody in the building could have predicted what was to come later on.

Nettes Fall In Home Opener Prepare For Thanksgiving Tournament

This past Tuesday, the Nettes varsity basketball team hosted the Lady Tigers of Dawson County High School in the season and home opener of the 2014-15 season. Despite the frigid cold temperature, fans made their way to the Dragons Den to watch some high school basketball. Prior to the varsity action, the JV boys would lose a tough one at the buzzer to the JV Tigers. The Nettes would look to even up the win totals on the night as they took the court.

The Lady Tigers would get off to a quick start in the opening quarter as they held the Nettes to just two points and take a 13 point lead heading into the 2nd quarter, 15-2. Dawson would again play strong defense as they outscored the Nettes 16-8 to take a 31-10 lead as we hit the half. The Nettes came out in the 3rd and found a bit of offense but were outscored 13-10 in the quarter and trailed 44-20 going into the 4th. Dawson took this one in Jasper 66-29.

Leading the way for the Nettes would be Taylor Wigington with 9 points, 1 assist, and 4 rebounds.

Haley Kalson finished with 4 points, and 3 rebounds

Mackenzie Hampton finished with 4 points, and 2 rebounds

MaKayla Payne added 3 assists, and 1 rebound

This young Nettes team will now focus on the annual Thanksgiving tournament held this year at Gilmer High School. The 3-day tournament pits Pickens, Gilmer, Fannin, and Copper Basin (TN) in a round robin format where everyone plays everyone. The Nettes will open the tournament on Saturday Nov. 22nd at 3 against Fannin. The final two days of the tournament will be played on Monday, Nov. 24th and Tuesday, Nov. 25th.

Last night, the Dragons and Nettes varsity basketball team welcomed the Lady Eagles and Eagles of Etowah to the Dragon’s Den. Etowah is out of Woodstock and is in the 6A classification. These games were scrimmage games to see where the teams were at as they prepare for the upcoming 2014-15 season.

Varsity Volleyball Sweeps Copper Basin

The Pickens High School Dragonettes varsity volleyball, led by head coach, Ben Banard, traveled to Tennessee to take on the Lady Cougars of Copper Basin in a battle of GA vs Tenn. The Nettes would take this one in straight sets.
