Nettes’ Get A Big Win In Region Opener
Team FYN Sports December 1, 2015Earlier this evening, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team hosted 7-AAAA foe, the LaFayette Lady Ramblers in the Dragons Den for the first home game of the season. The Nettes’ came into the ball game at 2-2 and looked to start off region play with a win.
After a bit of back and forth to start the ball game, Pickens took control by the end of the quarter to lead it, 15-8 going into the 2nd quarter. The Nettes’ were able to extend their lead in the frame with a 17-12 run. Giving them a 32-20 lead heading into the break.
The 3rd quarter was highly contested as both teams went back and forth. Both teams ended the quarter each scoring 9 points. Pickens still maintained the lead going to the 4th, 41-29. In the 4th and final quarter. the Nettes’ defense helped spark a 18-5 run to break things open. Pickens went on to take this one, 59-34.
Leading the way for the Nettes’ were:
Autumn Young: 20 points, 3 assists, 1 rebound, & 3 steals
Mackenzie Hampton: 15 points, 8 rebounds, & 2 steals
Shae Chadwick: 6 points, 1 assist, 2 rebounds, & a steal
Ashley Nelson: 5 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound, & 2 steals
The Nettes’ were scheduled to host the Lady Purple Hurricanes of Cartersville on Friday but due to the State semi-final football game being played at Cartersville that night, that game has been rescheduled for the 18th. The Nettes’ next game will be next Tuesday at Heritage as they face the Lady Generals. Tip off scheduled for 6 p.m.
Nettes Fall In Home Opener Prepare For Thanksgiving Tournament
Team FYN Sports November 20, 2014This past Tuesday, the Nettes varsity basketball team hosted the Lady Tigers of Dawson County High School in the season and home opener of the 2014-15 season. Despite the frigid cold temperature, fans made their way to the Dragons Den to watch some high school basketball. Prior to the varsity action, the JV boys would lose a tough one at the buzzer to the JV Tigers. The Nettes would look to even up the win totals on the night as they took the court.
The Lady Tigers would get off to a quick start in the opening quarter as they held the Nettes to just two points and take a 13 point lead heading into the 2nd quarter, 15-2. Dawson would again play strong defense as they outscored the Nettes 16-8 to take a 31-10 lead as we hit the half. The Nettes came out in the 3rd and found a bit of offense but were outscored 13-10 in the quarter and trailed 44-20 going into the 4th. Dawson took this one in Jasper 66-29.
Leading the way for the Nettes would be Taylor Wigington with 9 points, 1 assist, and 4 rebounds.
Haley Kalson finished with 4 points, and 3 rebounds
Mackenzie Hampton finished with 4 points, and 2 rebounds
MaKayla Payne added 3 assists, and 1 rebound
This young Nettes team will now focus on the annual Thanksgiving tournament held this year at Gilmer High School. The 3-day tournament pits Pickens, Gilmer, Fannin, and Copper Basin (TN) in a round robin format where everyone plays everyone. The Nettes will open the tournament on Saturday Nov. 22nd at 3 against Fannin. The final two days of the tournament will be played on Monday, Nov. 24th and Tuesday, Nov. 25th.
Varsity Volleyball Sweeps Copper Basin
Team FYN Sports August 26, 2014The Pickens High School Dragonettes varsity volleyball, led by head coach, Ben Banard, traveled to Tennessee to take on the Lady Cougars of Copper Basin in a battle of GA vs Tenn. The Nettes would take this one in straight sets.
