Houston Chuck Childers

Mr. Houston Chuck Childers, age 72, of Fairmount passed away November 1, 2018 at the Wildwood Health Care Center.

Mr. Childers is survived by his Son & Daughter-in-Law: Scotty & Renee Childers of Fairmount; Brother: Bill Childers of the Hinton Community; Sisters: Mary Bunch of Fairmount and Bertha Bramblett of the Hinton Community. Also the Mother of His Children: Kathy Childers of Waleska.
He was also survived by Two Grandchildren: Ashley Salters and husband Daniel & Brandie Jordan and Three Great-Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family will be receiving friends, Saturday, November 3 from 9:30 AM until 9:00 PM. Also, Sunday, November 4, 8:00 AM until the funeral hour.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday November 4, at the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home. Rev Childers, officiated.

Internment was at Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.

Gail Patricia Reid, age 79 of Jasper, Georgia passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital. She was born July 28, 1939 to William and Verna Pettigrew in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Survivors include her husband, James Seth Reid of Jasper; son, Michael Reid of Tampa, Florida; daughter, Teresa Moldanado of Tampa, Florida; grandchildren, Michaela Reid, Jenziel Reid, Jasriel Reid, Ebony Reid, all of Florida; great-grandchild, Nalia Reid; sister, Jean Tierney of Mandeville, Louisiana; and sister, Loretta Roberts of Marietta, Georgia.

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 9, 2018 at Our Lady of the Mountains Roman Catholic Church in Jasper with Father Byrd officiating. Inurnment will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Georgia National in Canton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul of Our Lady of the Mountains Roman Catholic Church. (1908 Waleska Highway; Jasper, GA 30143)

Glen Edward Davies, age 72, of Jasper, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2018 at his home. He was born February 24, 1946 to Carl and Jamie Davies in Atlanta, Georgia.

Survivors include his wife, Maryetta (Mayjet) Davies of Big Canoe; daughter, Katherine Kerri Davies Crean of Snellville; daughter and son-in-law, Joy Davies and George O’Brien of Cumming; daughter and son-in-law, Amy Harris Ryan and Kevin Ryan of Dunwoody; brother, Bill Davies of Conyers; sister, Katherine Davies Phillips of Gainesville; grandchildren, Kiera Crean, Philip Ryan, and Louis Ryan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Jamie Davies and brother, James Davies.

Mr. Davies will remain in the care of the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory while he is being cremated.

George “Pete” Randolph Cross: Obituary

George Randolph Cross

October 24, 1925 – October 30, 2018

George (Pete) R. Cross, passed away at the age of 93 on October 30, 2018. Born in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1925, he was the son of Price and Julia Cross. The family moved to Georgia where Pete graduated from Avondale High School. He was a track star and president of his senior class. He was also a lifeguard at the Avondale Pool.

In July of 1944, at the age of nineteen, George was drafted into the Army and attended boot camp at Fort Bragg. Shortly thereafter he was deployed to the front lines in Europe with the 335th Infantry as a light machine gunner. George received the Bronze Star along with several other medals and awards while serving his country during WWII.

After the war, George returned to Georgia and studied art at UGA. In 1951 he started his career with Eastern Airlines and retired after 34 years. In the early 90s, George and his first wife Louise moved to Jasper, Georgia where he joined the Bent Tree Tennis Group and was fondly known as the “Spin Doctor.” He played tennis well into his 80s.

In 2011, Pete married his neighbor Carole and together began a new chapter in his life. George was well known for his creativity as an artist, his quick wit, and his love for jazz and big band music. He was very patriotic and deeply proud of his country and his service in WWII. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

George is survived by his wife Carole of Jasper, Georgia and step-son Thom of Coal Mountain, Georgia. He is predeceased by Louise, his wife of 50+ years. George was laid to rest in the Cross Family plot in a private service. The Cross family appreciates your donations to Pickens Animal Rescue in lieu of flowers.

Mr. Gene Petway, Jr. age 74 of Big Canoe passed away Monday, October 29, 2018 , at his residence.

Mr. Petway, is survived by his Wife of 51 years: Vetis G. Petway. Son & Daughter-in-Law: Phillip O. & Catherine Petway and two Grandchildren: Jeremy and Madison Turner; Sister & Brother-in-Law: Elaine & Mike Deguire of Nashville, TN and two Nephews, Michael and Joseph Deguire.

Gene was the family patriarch and provided boundless love, advice and support to everyone. He was well respected among his colleagues and many friends. Gene found joy in his life and was quick with a smile and laugh with those he loved. He will be greatly missed.

A committal graveside service will be held at GA National Cemetery, at a later time.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made in memory of Gene Petway, to Big Canoe Animal Rescue.

George Kenneth Mosley: Obituary

George Kenneth Mosley

July 27, 1929 – October 29, 2018

Mr. George Kenneth Mosley, age 89, of Jasper passed away Monday, October 29, 2018 at his residence. Born in Pickens County he was the son of the late Rembert & Asta Mosley.

Kent was proceded in death by his brother, Pog Mosley and sister, Judy Boggus.

Kent was a four year  U.S. Army Vereran. Serving 3 years in Japan and one year in Korea. While serving in Japan, he was a page at the trial of Japanese Prime Minister, Tojo, accused of war crimes.

Kent was also the first “walking city Mail Carrier”, a job he loved. He worked for the Postal Service until his retirement in 1989.

He also loved his Wood Working. He carved ducks, made fishing plugs, could paint, draw and made lots of boxes.

Mr. Mosley is survived by his Wife: Bobbie Mosley of 65 Years. Brother-in-law & Wife: Phil & Dee Cagle of Gainesville: Sister-in-law: Peggy Mosley of Jasper. Several nieces and nephews also survive, Jenny Cagle Mitchell & Steven Cagle; Dan & Marty Mosley, Trina, Dee Dee, Tammy & Don Boggus.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 31, from 10:00 AM until the Graveside service hour.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 31, at Sunrise Memorial Gardens, with Pastor Steve Lowe officiating.

Pall Bearers: Steven Cagle, Dan Mosley, Chase Mosley, Marty Mosley, Patrick Mitchell & Don Boggus. Honorary Pall Bearers: Lee Matheson, & Leonard Crane.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Memory of Kent to Jasper First Baptist Church, Joy House, or Charity of your choice.

Mr. Cody is preceded in death by his wife: Sharon Cody; Son: Keith Cody; Daughter: Leanne Cody.
