James “Jim” Joseph Marcusky, age 76, of Canton, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2019 at his home. Jim was born September 13, 1942 to Leo and Anna Marcusky in New York, New York. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, and an adoring grandfather.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Shelia Marcusky of Canton; his daughter and son-in-law,Angela and Jeff Diver of Middletown, Ohio; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Melissa Marcusky of Canton; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Arlene Marcusky of Hollywood, Florida and Mike and Donna Marcusky of Miami, Florida; grandchildren, Wesley Diver, Taylor Kraft, Olivia Kraft, Lindsey Diver, Zachary Marcusky, Sophia Marcusky, Luke Prater, and Ella Prater.

Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Our Lady of the Mountains Roman Catholic Church with Father Byrd officiating. Interment will be 3:00 p.m., Monday, July 22, 2019 at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s honor to the Lewy Body Dementia Association in Lilburn, Georgia or your local St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Mr. James Junior Jones, age 87 of Jasper, passed away Saturday July 13, 2019 at Pruitt Health.

Mr. Jones is survived by his Daughter & Son-in-Law: Cindy & Danny Mulkey of Talking Rock; Daughter: Linda Hancock of Waleska; Brother & Sister-in-Law: Gene & Ann Jones of Jasper; and one Grandson: Daniel Mulkey.

Mr. Jones is preceded in death by three Sisters: Ruth Hall, Kate Bunch and Jewell Cribb; one Brother: Bill Jones.

Visitation is Monday July 15 from 4:30 PM until 10:00 PM, Tuesday July 16 from 8:00 AM until 10:00 PM and Wednesday July 17 from 8:00 AM until the funeral hour.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday July 17, 2019 in the Cagle Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Buck Parker officiating.

Pallbearers: Danny Mulkey, Daniel Mulkey, Greg Jones, Phillip Jones, Jeremy Jones and Justin Mosiello.

Interment will be at Sunrise Memorial Gardens, following the funeral service.

Mrs. Jean Ellen Ficht, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother of Big Canoe, Georgia, passed away on July 3, 2019. She was the wife of Thomas A. Ficht, and they shared over 61 years of happy marriage together. She is survived by her husband, Thomas; her daughter, Andrea Winson; and grandsons, Danial Winson and Kyle Winson, all of Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Irma (King) Lightner and Ira Lightner of Streator, Illinois, and four sisters and two brothers, all of Illinois.

Jean was graduated from Streator (IL) High School and the Henrotin Hospital School of Nursing (Chicago, IL) as a Registered Nurse. She pursued a nursing career for over 23 years in various cities as an Operating Room Nurse. Jean and her husband were fortunate to enjoy many travels together and journeyed to 50 states, 7 continents, and 46 separate nations. Also, she was active for many years in the Big Canoe Friendship Force and the Tate United Methodist Church (GA), where she enjoyed singing in the choir.

A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Tate United Methodist Church in Tate, Georgia. The family will receive condolences at 1:00 p.m. on that day at the Tate Church Fellowship Hall.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Kenneth Lowe of Waleska; son, Chris Minnix of Florida; daughters, Camille Minnix of Florida, Toni Minnix of Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Layla and Doug Patterson of Talking Rock; son, Travis Lowe of Talking Rock; grandchildren and special grandson, Garrett Patterson, Aiden Minnix, Alexa Minnix, Emily Ginjauma, Jake Patterson, Tyler Patterson; sisters, Charlene Gassaway of Florida, Cindy Minnix of Florida; and a host of friends and other relatives.

Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 14, 2019 at the Living Word Church with Reverend Franklin King and Pastor Mark Porado officiating.

Lori Rasmussen, age 60, of Big Canoe, GA passed away Friday, June 14, 2019 at her home. Lori was born September 7, 1958 in Tucson, Arizona to Lawrence and Mary Ann Rasmussen.

Lori is survived by her husband, Paul Grupe of Big Canoe; children, James Sewall of Atlanta, Kenneth Sewall of Atlanta; step-children, Paul Grupe of Dallas, Lindsay Walker of Johns Creek; father, Lawrence Rasmussen of California; mother, Mary Ann Rasmussen of California; step-mother, Jessica Loring of California; brother, Lance Rasmussen of Texas; sister, Lynn Rasmussen of Nevada; and grandchild, Payton Grupe of Dallas. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date.

Larry Kent Butler

December 9, 1947 – May 30, 2019

Larry Kent Butler, 71, died May 30, 2019 at his home, Seventy-four Ranch, in Jasper, Georgia.
He was born in Atlanta in 1947 to Mary Willson Butler and Richard Kirby Butler.

He was educated at Marist High School and graduated cum laude from North Georgia College as a Distinguished Military Graduate in 1969. He received his J.D. from Emory University Law School in 1975.

He was a captain in the United States Army and served as commander of a Hawk Missile Battery in the 52nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment. Under his command, the Hawk Missile Battery scored a 99.5 in a joint NATO military exercise. It was the highest score in NATO history at the time, and he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal.

He specialized in complex civil litigation, including catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death cases.

He was a member/officer of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America 1975-2010.

He served as President of the Albany Rugby Football Club in 1980. He served as President of the Atlanta chapter of the Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association in 1992. He also served as Georgia Team Penning Association President in 1997.

In 1999, he founded the Seventy-four Ranch in Jasper, Georgia together with his wife Pam. While continuing to practice law, he also served the community as a volunteer firefighter.

His daughter, Gabrielle Hope, predeceased him.

He is survived by his wife, Pam Martin Butler; his son, Patrick Kennedy Butler; his son, Sean Alexander Fine; and three grandchildren, Jacob Butler, William Butler, and Celeste Fine.

A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Our Lady of the Mountains Roman Catholic Church with Father Charles Byrd officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. A reception will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Seventy-Four Ranch – 9205 Highway 53 West; Jasper, Georgia 30143.

Ronnie Larry Crook, age 69, of Ranger, Georgia passed away Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper. He was born in Pickens County to Weldon and Mamie Crook.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Kristina Crook of Ranger; son and fiance, Wesley Crook and Armanda Cantrell of Ranger; grandchildren, Joseph Crook, Kolbi Crook, and Madison Crook; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Martha Crook of Fairmount; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Kenneth Townsend of Fairmount. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Crook was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda West Crook.

The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home and Crematory, Tuesday, June 11, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Wednesday, June 12, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Thursday 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 13, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at East Damascus Church with Reverend Daniel McCoy, Reverend Russell Nations, Reverend Gerald Sinard and Reverend Roger Townley officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will accept flowers or donations can be made to East Damascus Baptist Church in honor of Ronnie.
