Talking Rock hosts the 27th Heritage Days Festival

PICKENS, Ga. — Every year, the Heritage Days Festival draws crowds to the small town of Talking Rock, Ga. This year, John S. Quinton Memorial Park saw an influx of visitors attending the 27th annual festival. Heritage Days hosts a variety of local vendors, including artists, musicians, and even local historians. 

The community gathers during the event to share their handiwork, enjoy the fall scenery, and talk with both locals and tourists. From soap to old machinery, the walk through the park is full of interesting shops and booths.

The festival took place at John S. Quinton Memorial Park, which provides attendees with a playground, pavilion, and creek access.

Nettes Win OT Thriller Get Ready For State Tournament

Yesterday, the Dragonettes varsity basketball team made the trip up to Southeast Whitfield one more time to take on the Lady Generals of Heritage in the 7AAAA Region Tournament Girls Consolation Game to determine the region’s third seed. Last Tuesday, the Dragons traveled to take on the Generals of Heritage in 7AAAA action. Pickens, who’ve had a difficult time the last several games, looked to turn things around last Tuesday. The Dragons varsity basketball team hosted the Bobcats of Gilmer in the Dragons Den for a region 7AAAA battle. Pickens, coming off of an incredible comeback against Heritage on Tuesday, looked to keep the momentum going against their rivals to the north. Dragon Nation would have a lot to cheer about Friday evening.

Down In The Fourth Quarter Dragons Come Back To Get Region Win

Last Tuesday, the Dragons Den played host to a region match up between the Dragons and the visiting Generals of Heritage. Pickens had an 0-1 record in region coming into this ball game while Heritage entered 6-1 overall and 2-0 in region. That would not stop the Dragons from pulling off the “upset.”

Nettes Win Third Straight Have Eyes Set On Undefeated Lady Cats

Last Tuesday, The Nettes were back in action as they hosted the Lady Generals of Heritage in region action in the Dragons Den. Pickens, coming off a non region win against West Hall, looked to continue their good play and move above .500 on the season and stay perfect in region play. The Nettes were able to do just that.

Yesterday, The Dragons finally returned to the Dragons Den to play a true home game for the first time since November 18th to host the Spartans of West Hall in non region action. Pickens, coming off of a tough loss to LaFayette Tuesday night, looked to get back on track before returning to region play next week. Dragon Nation were treated to a great afternoon of high school basketball.

Yesterday, The Nettes varsity basketball team came back to the Dragons Den for the first time since November 18th as they hosted the Lady Spartans of West Hall in non region action. Pickens, coming off of an impressive win in LaFayette on Tuesday, looked to continue their good play against the Lady Spartans. Defense would be the story of this game.

Dragons Shut Out Generals Earn First Playoff Birth Since 2005

A big week for Pickens High School football started when the JV Dragons defeated Lumpkin County last Thursday 41-34 to finish the season at 6-1 and capture the league championship. Friday night, the varsity Dragons traveled to Catoosa County to take on the Generals of Heritage in what was a crucial game for both teams’ playoff hopes. The Dragons came in with a 3-1 region record, while the Generals had a 2-2 region record. It had been 3,275 days since the Dragons last appearance in the state playoffs, that number would fall to 0.

Dragons Pick Up Road Win Keep Pace In The Region Race

The Pickens High School Dragons football team traveled to LaFayette High School to take on the Ramblers. This game was the first road game for Pickens since September 19th. It was also be the first meeting between the two teams. LaFayette’s Homecoming would serve as the backdrop for this game; however, the celebration was short lived as the Dragons’ offense roasted the Ramblers to the tune of 69 points, en route Pickens picking up the 69-34 win.

Nettes Softball Lose A Tough One To Heritage

Last Thursday, the Nettes softball team hosted the #2 team in 4A Lady Generals of Heritage. Prior to the game, the two teams came together in the infield to release red, white, and blue balloons in remembrance of the 9/11 attacks. (more…)
