During Saturday’s non-conference football game between the Stetson Hatters and the Mercer Bears, former PHS QB Tanner Brumby got in on the action. The redshirt Sophomore played the majority of the 2nd half in what was a big win for Mercer 57-14.
Brumby was 3-9 passing on the night for 31 yards while adding 54 yards rushing on 9 carries and a touchdown. Brumby starred under center at PHS where he set all-time school records with 3,624 passing yards, 294 completions, and 32 touchdowns while rushing for 1,603 yards and 20 scores. Gathering honorable mention honors from the AJC in 2012 and all-state recognition for his punting ability in 2012 and 2013. Brumby was also named to the 7-AAAA all-state teams in ’12 & ’13 at QB.
Not only did Brumby excel on the field, he achieved success in the classroom as well as he was a member of the PHS Academic Honor Roll all four years.
The Pickens High School Dragons basketball teams held the annual end of the year banquet to honor seniors and superlatives. The banquet was held at the PHS. After dinner was served both head coaches, Kevin Jacobs, and Brad Steinhauer briefly spoke about each player and doled out awards. The winners are listed below. (more…)
The Pickens High School basketball teams traveled to Cass High School last Saturday in hopes of advancing in the Region 7-AAAA tournament. Neither team was able to secure a state playoff berth, as the Dragonettes fell, 46-41, to Heritage and the Dragons fell, 60-49, to Dalton. (more…)
The Pickens High School basketball teams traveled to Gilmer County on Wednesday to play in a makeup game that had been canceled the week before. In attendance were the varsity teams along with the JV Boys team. Every game was close for the duration of the event, but the PHS teams all fell to the Bobcats on the night. (more…)
The Pickens Dragonettes and Dragons had disappointing developments in their games against River Ridge High School on Friday evening, as the Nettes lost 49-48 in the final seconds and the Dragons struggled through a thirty-four point defeat.

The Pickens High School Dragonettes and Dragons varsity basketball teams traveled to Cedartown High School to battle the Bulldogs. It was Cedartown’s senior night and the home teams pulled out two close wins in front of a raucous hometown crowd, 71-67 over the “Nettes” and 44-43 over the Dragons. The Pickens junior varsity Dragons was the only team to score a win, blowing out the Bulldogs 55-32. (more…)

The Pickens High School basketball teams played host to the region rival Gilmer Bobcats Tuesday night. The matchup was the second meeting of the year for the two teams, with the first coming in the annual Tip-Off tournament. After the JV Dragonettes fell to the Lady Cats, the varsity teams looked to right the ship; however, the Dragonettes ran out of time, falling 46-44, while the Dragons fell 57-42. (more…)
Pickens Dragons senior quarterback Tanner Brumby committed to play football at Mercer University on Sunday, January 12th, getting one step closer to becoming only the fifth player in Pickens High School history to play football at the Division 1 level.
