Hernandez Wins American League Cy Young

Seattle Mariners pitcher, Felix Hernandez won the prestigious award despite only winning 13 games, the lowest number of any Cy Young winner, with a full season of starts under his belt. Hernandez led the majors with a 2.77 ERA. He also was number one in the AL in innings pitched as well as second in strike out.Hernandez (13-12) garnered 21 of 28 first place votes and finished with 167 points. Second place finisher, Tampa Rays pitcher David Price had four first place votes and a total of 111 points. Yankees pitcher, C.C. Sabathia, who led the AL in wins with 21, finished third with 102 points. The votes are gathered from 28 different writers, two each from every AL city. The points are awarded based on place: first-7; second-5; third-3; fourth-2; fifth-5.
