Report: Cecil Sought Three Payments for #2

Bill Bell, a Mississippi State booster and former player, told ESPN.com that he was given three part payment plan, via text, by Kenny Rogers, another former Miss. St. player claiming to represent Cecil Newton, father of Auburn quarterback Cameron Newton. Bell said that Roger’s text stipulated that the first payment of $80,000 was to be made on the day that Newton signed, and that payment would be followed by to payments of $50,000 each 30 days apart.Bell said, “He told me this kid’s dad is going to want money and the next day he sent me a text message. He didn’t say anything other than ‘This is what I want and I want it in three installments.”‘

Bell also said that he never heard Cecil Newton ever ask him directly for money, but that Rogers openly discussed the issue in front of Newton that Newton often inferred it.

“He inferred it and talked about it, but not directly. Kenny would talk about it in front of him, and (Cecil Newton) never corrected him or said, ‘No, that’s not what we’re doing.”‘

Bell reportedly damaged the damaging evidence filled phone when he accidentally dropped the phone in water. Bell is currently in the process of having the texts recovered by the cell phone company.

Bell said that his purpose for coming forward is to reiterate that there was no rule breaking done on the part of Miss. St.
