Cyrus Jack Thurman: Obituary

The Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge announces the death of Mr. Cyrus Jack Thurman, age 90, of Cleveland, TN, formally of McCaysville, GA who passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2011 in Skyridge Medical Center in Cleveland, TN. Mr. Thurman was born on October 14, 1920 in Fannin County to the late Rufus Montiville and Annie Miranda Corn Thurman. He was retired from Tennessee Chemical Company as a supervisor in the acid department. Mr. Thurman was a member of Clingan Ridge Baptist Church in Cleveland, TN and attended Kingtown Baptist Church. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was a fifty year member of the Copperhill Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Jean L. Thurman of Cleveland, TN; sons and daughters-in-law, Don J. and Zella M. Thurman of Cleveland, TN and Darrell Lee and Susan Thurman of Cleveland, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Devie Thurman and David J. Daws of Marietta, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Max Thurman of Canton, GA; sister, Ruth T. Ganues of Maryville, TN; five grandchildren, Matthew Lee and wife Erica Thurman, Zachary Shaun Thurman, Alan Stephen and wife Miranda Daws, Julie Ann Daws and husband Kenneth Holmes, Christopher Jack Thurman and fiancé Amanda Vaughn.

Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the Crestlawn Cemetery with Dr. Tom Jordan officiating. Music will be provided by Shea Pack. Pallbearers will be Matthew Thurman, Alan Daws, Chris Thurman, Zachary Thurman and Kenneth Holmes. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials in memory of Mr. Thurman may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Boulevard, Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852.
