H.J. “Shorty” Payne : Obituary

Mr. H.J. Payne, age 69, of Waleska, Georgia, died February 23, 2011 at Northside Hospital Cherokee following a period of declining health.Born on January 23, 1942 in Cherokee County, Georgia to the late Carl and Norma Lee Payne, Mr. Payne was a truck driver for Pilgrims Pride.

He was survived by his wife, Kathleen Payne of Waleska, Ga., his sons, Donald Payne of Waleska, Ga. and Jeffery Payne of Murphy, N.C., his daughters, Patricia Greenway of Jasper, Ga., Sherry Lynn Qualls of Cartersville, Ga., and Lora Ann Erdman of Jasper, Ga., nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, his brothers, James Payne of Free Home, Ga., CL Payne, Carl JR Payne, Earl Payne and Ervin Payne, all of Canton, Ga., and his sister, Genelee Hulsey of Canton, Ga.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 3 pm, Friday, February 25, 2011, from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. James M. Holt officiating.

At his request, Mr. Payne will be cremated following the funeral service.

The family will receive friends at Roper Funeral Home in Jasper, Georgia on Thursday, February 24, 2011 beginning at 11 am and until the funeral hour on Friday.
