Dalton Drags Dragons in “Cat”astrophe at Dragon Field

The Dalton Catamounts visited Pickens Dragons and came away with a 5-1 victory over the home team. Most of the “Cat’s” clawing was done in the top of the sixth inning when Dalton scored three runs increasing their lead to the four, which proved to be an insurmountable amount for the Dragons in the last two at bats. Dalton pitcher, Toombs Norman, threw a complete game and picked up the victory.Pickens pitcher, Matt Cook, was able to dog the Catamounts for first three innings of the game. He held Dalton scoreless until walking Grant Sane with the bases loaded, causing Taylor Dunn to score the first Catamounts run of the night. Will Kiker hit a pop fly to second base, closing out the top of the fourth inning.

Pickens picked up the pace in the bottom of the fourth when Brian Morris led off with double to left center field. Matthew Cook followed with a double of his own that allowed Morris to tie the game at one a piece. After a pop fly to left field by Trego Dillon, Aaron Lowman hit a single to short center field; however, he was able to proceed to second when the center fielder threw home to hold, pinch runner, Eric Justice at third. The inning came to close after a diving catch of Tanner Brumby’s line drive by the second baseman, preceded by a Pickens’ strike out.

Jesse Decker was brought in for relief duty in the top of the fifth inning. He was able to get the two first Dalton batters out, striking out one. Carter Gilean then hit a double, which was followed by a single by Alex Blackwell which allowed Gilean to score. Trey Craig ended the inning with a pop fly to center field; however, the damage to the Dragons was already done.

The bottom of the fifth saw the Dragons begin with promise as Aaron Eubanks led off with a single to right field. Connor North followed with a sacrifice bunt that moved Eubanks to second, but two ground outs ended the Dragons’ scoring threat.

The final scoring of the night came in the top of the sixth as the Catamounts padded the lead with three more runs. The four run lead combined with Norman retiring batters like a nursing home supervisor, secured the visitors victory and increased the home team’s losing streak to six games.
