Pickens Ends Losing Streak in Lafayette

The Pickens Dragons’ baseball team ended a 10 game losing streak, with an 8-3 road victory over the Lafayette Ramblers. The Ramblers were also the last team to fall to the Dragons before the aforementioned losing streak. Pitcher, Matthew Cook, threw a complete game, picking up the win. He faced 27 batters, giving up two earned runs.The Dragons jumped on the Ramblers early, drawing first blood in the top of the first inning. Pickens continued to pound the Ramblers, with three more runs in the top of the second. Lafayette’s first run came at the bottom of the second, making the score 4-1 in the Dragons favor.

Pickens was held scoreless in the third, while the Ramblers cut into the lead further with a single run in the bottom of the inning, making the score 4-2.

The Dragons further increased the lead with another run scored in the top of the fourth, while holding the Ramblers scoreless in the bottom of the fourth and fifth. Pickens also failed to score in the fifth.

The sixth inning saw the Dragons on fire, with three runs scored in the top of the inning. The Ramblers were able to score one more run in the bottom of the sixth, but eventually fell 8-3 with neither team scoring in the seventh inning.

Connor North led all Dragons in runs scored with three, including a home run. Eric Justice was second with two runs scored. Jesse Decker, Tanner Brumby, and Aaron Eubanks all scored one run a piece. Dillon Trego, and Cook, tied for the team lead in batting average with .750; North was second with .600.
