Pickens High School product Jeremiah Boswell has come back to Jasper with his very own basketball camp, which takes place in Jasper Middle School. The co-ed camp is open to children 8-12.Boswell burned up the competition as a Pickens Dragon before continuing his basketball career as a Columbia Lion. He is currently a member of ABA Strumica, in Macedonia.
Boswell and his partner, Mike Rumble, have put the camp together in order to help children with basketball, as well as life skills.
“I love basketball, and I’ve always loved working with kids. For me if I have a chance to make a positive impact on a kid by using basketball then I’m excited to do that. I always try to teach positive messages beyond basketball, because a lot of these kids aren’t even going to play basketball through high school even, or college or whatever, but if they get something else positive out of it then I’ve done something good,” Boswell said.
Boswell expressed pleasure with the amount of participation in the camp. The number of kids in the camp was not abundant enough to disallow valuable one on one time with the home town hero, as evidenced by Boswell and Rumble’s acute knowledge of the most of the children’s first names.
“If I have 200 kids in here, I can’t do it,” Boswell said. “If you can get that personal contact where you’re speaking their names and everything they get comfortable and then they have fun and they learn.
The camp consists of dribbling, shooting and passing drills, as well as defensive drills and games, over an approximate two hour time window. If one is interested, please contact Jeremiah Boswell.
