128 Kennesaw State Student Athletes Earn Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic Honors

The Kennesaw State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics complemented an impressive 2010-11 athletic year with an equally triumphant year in the classroom, with 128 student-athletes earning Atlantic Sun Conference All Academic honors.

“I’m very proud of the academic achievements of all of our student-athletes this year,”

Kennesaw State Athletic Director Vaughn Williams said.

“This type of recognition displays to our student-athletes and to the community how vital their success in the classroom is to the success of our department as a whole. I congratulate and thank all of our student-athletes for their hard work.”

Student-athletes who compete in the A-Sun are eligible for All-Academic honors when they earn a minimum grade point average of 3.0 during their season of athletic competition.

Men’s tennis and women’s golf both saw their entire rosters earn recognition, with all nine and six of their student-athletes, respectively, earning honors.

Many Owls went above and beyond the call of duty academically, as 40 student-athletes earned Conference Scholar recognition, awarded to student-athletes with a 3.40 GPA or higher. Six student-athletes each from softball, men’s tennis, and women’s track and field were named Conference Scholars, the most for a single team.

Three outgoing seniors were honored for their exceptional academic achievements during their final season as student-athletes. Volleyball’s Grace Hoyt and baseball’s Jeff Brown both earned President’s Scholar recognition, which is awarded to those who have earned a 3.80 GPA or higher in their final season of eligibility. Cross Country and track and field’s Nathan Haskins earned Commissioner’s Scholar distinction, which required a GPA above 3.60 and no remaining eligibility.
