In an October 5th called meeting, The Pickens County Board of Education motioned to approve the recommendation of Board Attorney Phillip Landrum III. The purpose of the meeting was to seek legal counsel regarding a potential litigation. At seven o’clock Wednesday night, the conference room at the administrative building at 91 D.B. Carroll Street was empty of citizens. In fact, the board members and board attorney were the only ones present.
The meeting was held almost entirely in executive session concealed from public ears, lasting over an hour. When the board came out of session, Chairperson Wendy Lowe made a motion to accept Landrum’s recommendation to settle the agreement as described and authorize the superintendent to prepare all necessary documents.
When asked about the particulars of the session and recommendation, Landrum told FYN that the county was under a confidentiality agreement and could not discuss the matter.
The meeting forges a few questions: 1) Why was the session called in such haste? 2) What were the details of the potential litigation? 3) What are the terms of the settlement?
FYN will follow this story as it develops.
